Satellite communications specialist Inmarsat has selected Outbox for customer relationship management for its new wholesale project. Outbox says it specialises in Customer Experience IT (CXIT), which will be a relief to people worrying that the technology industry didn’t have enough acronyms to keep it going.
The project essentially started in 2013, at the end of which Inmarsat launched the first of three Inmarsat-5 satellites. It is on schedule to achieve full global coverage by the end of 2014.
The three satellites will form the Global Xpress® constellation, a new network of satellites offering seamless global Ka-band coverage of up to 50Mbps to mobile or fixed terminals. In its announcement the company said they were more reliable than other satellites; Professional Outsourcing Magazine frankly doesn’t know enough about satellites to comment.
Inevitably, global coverage means the need for complete reliability and this is why Inmarsat decided it needed to supplement its customer relations operation with outside help. The timing meant that it was half way through a revamp of its wholesale operation so it needed to move quickly.
Inmarsat found Outbox, which offered 350 people dedicated to the PeopleSoft system the satellite giant already used. It also had a track record of integrating with client organisations quickly, and so won the business.
